Community spaces

Thackray strives to be a space for as many people as possible, including those who belong to the museum’s local community.
That’s why we have The Core, the community spaces at the heart of Thackray.
They are free to use for groups supporting the health and wellbeing of local people.
Big Core

This space can be used to host a mixture of workshops, event and activities, ranging from art classes to local support groups
Capacity: up to 25 people
Facilities: Screen with HDMI cable for presentations, as well as a flipchart. It also has a kitchenette with a fridge, kettle, toaster and free tea and coffee.
Little Core

This space has a cosier feel, perfect for small groups and one-on-ones. It does not come with facilities for tech or free tea and coffee.
Capacity: up to 15 people
Facilities: It is equipped with two sofas, tables and chairs, and a variety of books and games.

FAQs
Can we bring our own refreshments into The Core?
Groups are welcome to bring their own food and drinks into either room in The Core – Big Core is equipped with a microwave and a kettle, and a toaster is also available on request.
Can I book weekly sessions for my group?
You can! We have lots of groups who use the rooms once a week. Due to high demand for the spaces, we book 12 sessions at a time to help ensure as many groups as possible can use The Core.
Does The Core have Wi-Fi?
Groups using the Core can access the museum’s free Wi-Fi – the information is on the wall in the rooms.
Can I leave materials in the space for the following weeks?
We have a small amount of cupboard space available for regular groups to use – speak to our staff about reserving a shelf.
