This Easter, we ate and left no crumbs. We’re stuffed with two weeks of mouth-watering activities about food, glorious food!
Why does your tummy keep grumbling? Why does your mouth water? And why do you get those cravings?
We’ll be investigating all your must-know foodie facts, using live science shows, workshops and restaurant roleplay. You’ll even get some recipes to try at home!
We’re showing the whole family why it’s okay to trust your taste buds, so you can come away feeling full, refreshed and happy with the choices you make.
Here’s a flavour of what’s included in your museum ticket:
Thackray Science Live: Digest This!
Every weekday at 12pm, pre-book here.

We’ll be hosting a cookery-themed science show in our Victorian Operating Theatre. What could possibly go wrong?
Presented by the Thackray Boffins, our two resident science and history geeks, this performance will serve up answers to the big questions about food and our bodies.
There’ll be a pinch of science, a dollop of medicine and heaps of chaos.

Crunch Time: Restaurant Roleplay
Every day, drop-in session
Do you think you’re cut out for the restaurant business?
You’ll be given a chef’s hat, an apron and a stack of orders.
It’ll be a race against time to match the ingredients in front of you to the dish on the order. The menu will be bursting with cultural cuisines from all over the world, including ones you’ll find on our doorstep right here in Harehills.
Lunch Box Trail for Under-Fives
Grab one of our explorer lunch boxes when you arrive. But wait a second, there’s something missing! Embark on a tasty trail around the museum to find the missing ingredients.
When you’re finished, return your trail to one of the Thackray team to claim a prize!
Scrummy Story & Rhyme Time
8 April and 15 April, 10am-11pm. Please Pre-book here.
Our weekly under-5s Story and Rhyme Time sessions are getting a tasty twist! Using songs, sign language and sensory play, we’ll teach your tots about taking pleasure in cooking and eating, sharing and being together.
Meals on Wheels
This is bound to cook up a storm.
There’ll be six gameshow-style wheels across the museum, listing different ingredients. Give it a twirl and see which ingredient you land on. If you put them together, will you end up in foodie heaven or Hell’s kitchen?
Draw the dish onto a paper plate and it’ll be added to an art-piece in our In-Focus Gallery.
Watch this space for a full line-up announcement.
