Winter Holidays: It’s Cold Outside

Sat, 20 December 2025 - Sun, 4 January 2026 10am-4pm

Join us for a brr-rilliant polar adventure

Step into the snow-boots of a polar doctor and discover how people survive, heal, and stay healthy in the coldest places on Earth. From icy injuries to ingenious survival skills, you’ll learn how to stay cool under pressure – and make sure you don’t get cold feet in a polar emergency.

Polar Adventure Trail

Daily | 10am–4pm | Free with museum entry

Your mission begins here. You’re on an expedition and every decision you make shapes your team’s future. Follow six story stops across the museum, each with a real medical object to discover and a playful activity to try. Will you brave the blizzard or shelter in your snow tent? Ration your supplies or share them out? You decide.

Create Your Own Snow Globe

Daily | 10am–4pm | Free with museum entry

Build your very own winter world. Perfect for little hands and creative grown-ups alike. Our team will be on hand with tips, templates and plenty of sparkle.

Under-5s Explorer Bag: Polar Animals

Little explorers can discover the museum with a snow-capped twist. Slip on your wooly hat, follow the footprints around the galleries and spot frosty friends hiding in unexpected places.

From medicine at sea to poisonous plants, Thackray uses creativity and play to learn about a different medical theme every school holiday.
