Alice & James Tour

Did you hear Alice & James fighting!

What are your first impressions of James and Alice?
What differences do you see in the way they are dressed? What might be the reason for this?

Alice is 7 and James is 11. What seems odd seeing them next to each other?

There are many more differences between the lives of these two and their experiences. There are some similarities too. See what you can find out about Alice and James and the lives of some of the others, as you take a walk down Disease Street with them….

Alice’s family have a comfortable amount of money to live on, she lives in a nice house and her family have a maid to help around the house. Her father, Mr Finch owns the bookshop. Walk Disease Street with Alice Finch.

James’ parents died of a disease called cholera in 1832.

During the 19th century, cholera spread across the world. Cholera is a bacterial disease usually spread through dirty water. Cholera causes severe diarrhoea and dehydration (when the body doesn’t have enough water).

Did you notice that Alice is taller than James. James became an inmate of a workhouse aged 2. At the Workhouse James’s diet would have lacked the minerals needed to grow a healthy body. Walk Disease Street with James Wilson.
