We were pleased to have welcomed the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, The Rt Hon Nadine Dorries MP to the museum for a visit.
Nadine met Thackray Museum of Medicine’s CEO Nat Edwards, our chairman Dr Neil Kaiper-Holmes and our Director of Collections and Programme Sue Mackay for a whistle-stop tour of the museum, highlighting some of the changes the museum has made in the last few years and the importance and impact that museums have on the country’s cultural landscape.
The Rt Hon Nadine Dorries MP, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said “It was fantastic to visit the Thackray Museum of Medicine to hear about how government support of more than £500,000 from our Culture Recovery Fund helped keep its doors open through the pandemic. The museum is an important part of Leeds’ cultural landscape, and a unique inspiration for a new generation of health heroes.”
Nat Edwards, CEO of Thackray Museum of Medicine said “It was great to welcome The Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to The Thackray this afternoon and show her what our museum has to offer. As a former Nurse and minister for health, I’m sure she absolutely got what makes the museum so important and saw first-hand what makes us unique. I’m pretty certain she’s also the first cabinet minister to interact with a robot seal!”
