The body is an amazing collection of parts that work together to keep us fit and healthy. But how does the body fit together? Does everyone’s body fit together in the same way? What happens when a part of our body stops working?
Designed for children and their curious grown-ups, join us this February half term for a packed programme of hands-on activities that reveal the inner workings of the human body.
Access all of this activity free with your museum ticket:

Story & Rhyme Time: Full Body Boogie!
Wednesday 18 February | 10:30am | Under 5s | Pre-book here
The ankle bone’s connected to the… leg bone! Through movement and music, Story & Rhyme Time will take you on a boogie from our heads and shoulders all the way down to our knees and toes. Expect classic nursery rhymes with a Thackray twist that will get your toddler stomping their feet, clapping their hands, and shaking their shoulders.
Hands-on Heart Dissections
Various Dates and Times | Age 10+ | Pre-book here
Put yourself in the shoes of a pathologist and dissect a (non-human!) heart with the help of our medical experts!
Every day the average heart beats approximately 115,000 times as it pumps over 2,000 litres of blood around your body. Our team of pathologists will talk you through the inner workings of this vital organ, in this unique opportunity for families to step into the shoes of a medical student and find out first-hand what it’s like to dissect a real heart*.
For the workshop you will receive protective equipment and a dissection kit, including scalpels, scissors, tweezers and one heart per table. The workshop will last 45 minutes – please arrive 15 minutes prior to the workshop starting.
*Non-human! This workshop uses animal products.
From poo to poison, Thackray Museum uses creativity and play to explore a different medical theme every school holiday.
