Thackray Insights Late: Monarchs and Maladies

Thu, 13 March 2025 7.30pm (with museum access from 6pm)

Taking place across our Autumn/Winter season, Thackray Insights invites you to delve deep into eye opening topics and explore the unheard stories of medicine.

Louis XIV’s rear end inspired the British National Anthem.
Queen Victoria’s armpit led to the development of antiseptics.
Robert Jenkin’s ear started a war.

All too often, historical figures feel distant and abstract; more myth and legend than real flesh and blood. Settle down for an evening of gory tales and spine-tingling yarns as we explore the murkier side of medical history and the remarkable stories of some of the world’s most famous body parts.

This is a Thackray Insights Late – expect a lighter, after dark version of our long running series with chance to explore the museum after hours.
