Thackray Lates: That Feels Good

Thu, 27 June 2024 From 6pm

What makes us feel good? From the mind-bending world of psychedelics to the cognitive effects of music, Thackray’s next after-dark event will explore what it is that makes our brains tick and why.

Step into three Zones across our museum as we explore the brain’s relationship to Music, Attraction and Psychedelics with the help of leading experts, workshops and live music. With activity throughout the evening, all events are designed to be pop in and do not need to be booked in advance – just go with the flow!

Music Zone

Join Professor Catherine Loveday as she explores the impact of music on the brain, with the help of live sets from local musicians Hang Linton, Neve Cariad and Alex Browne throughout the evening.

Attraction Zone

Writer Declan Wiffen leads a drop-in zine making workshop playfully exploring attraction, sexuality and sensuality.

Dr James Jackson shares his tips on how to (literally) sniff out your perfect match.

Psychedelic Zone

Sip, sniff and sample some mood-altering natural concoctions available throughout the event, and learn what makes you feel good with RHS-trained gardener Matilya Njau.

Step into the colourful world of screen printing with local artist Jenny Wright, and create your own trippy work of art to take home with these drop in sessions.

Delve into the mind-bending science of drugs and their potential to treat neurological disorders with Dr Clare Tweedy.

And more!

Be sure to pop in for an appointment with our expert team for a close-up view of some of the mind-expanding objects in our collection, with pop up stations found across the museum all evening.

Our friends from Kirkstall Brewery will be serving a range of alcoholic tipples throughout the evening, alongside a menu of hot and cold food and non-alcoholic drinks in our café.

Still curious? Be sure to check out our shop stocked full of extraordinary gifts and thought-provoking reads.

Thackray Lates is our new series of adult-only evening events taking place across 2024. Join us as we explore unusual topics and untold stories with the help of special guests, hands-on experiences, medical experiments, performances and more.

Due to the nature of the event, these are experience tickets (so annual passes and other museum tickets are not valid). This event is recommended for those aged 18+. Please note there will be alcohol available at this event.
