Exhibition: POO!

Sat, 26 July 2025 - Sun, 4 January 2026

Welcome to the number one exhibition on number twos 💩

This summer, we’re lifting the lid on bums, tums and stinky science to answer your most potty-mouthed questions about poo!

Through recreated smells (oh yes!), touch and discovery, POO! will flush out the science behind one of the body’s most remarkable (and messy) functions.

Why does poo smell? What colour should it be? How much poo is there in the world? This fun and fascinating family exhibition gets to the bottom of digestion, responding to questions from children at Harehills Primary School.

You’ll even come face to face (or nose to nose) with a real Medieval poo from the 12th century, as well as a surprise from the National Poo Museum, alongside our own collection of Victorian laxatives, digestive cures and digestive ‘solutions.’

Don’t hold it in… Join us for POO! at Thackray.

The archaeological material exhibited here was excavated by York Archaeological Trust for Excavation and Research Limited and is loaned by and cared for by York Archaeology.
