On the Bench – Exhibition

Sat, 29 July 2023 - Sun, 31 December 2023

Free with a museum ticket from the 29th of July

This summer, bring your family to our brand new season of exhibitions and events ‘On the Bench’ – the game-changing story of sport and injury. Our season explores what happens when players get injured and who helps them recover.

Curated in partnerships with Leeds sporting superstars, On the Bench invites you behind the curtain and onto the treatment table to hear their injury stories.

Stevie Ward, ex-captain of Leeds Rhinos, shares his experience of head injuries and how these have shaped a new career outside of sport. He’ll also share the story of his amazing comeback from a shoulder injury and how he went on to play a starring role in the Rhino’s 2017 Super League Grand Final win.

Norman Francis is an ex-basketball player and current coach of the Mandela Warriors in Chapel Town. Norman shares the story of losing his leg and how he’s overcome this setback to continue coaching the next generation of Leeds basketball stars.

The Leeds Roller Derby Club are a women’s flat-track roller derby club. We talk to Catherine Robins and Vicky B who have both broken their legs while playing and hear about how they’ve managed to remain involved in the sport.

If you have an Annual Museum Ticket already, please login with your pass ID (this can be found on your original confirmation email or your museum ticket if brought onsite) and follow the process to the checkout to book your re-visit here.
